The Malcontents Series: Mae, 2020
Acrylic on cardstock
Series of 6
12 x 12 in.

This is Mae.
Mae only gets dressed up for her cats.
In fact, these days her cats are her only friends.
She talks to them and even though they aren’t much for conversation, they seem appreciative of the food she pays for from her retirement check.
The elderly are among the most forgotten demographic in our society.
Just keeping them alive, taking care of medical expenses, and visiting nana at the home once a month is not enough.
Our matriarchs and patriarchs are human beings and need real stimulus, interaction, and connection.
They are our link to real-time history and who we are, where we come from.
If you don’t live near any of your own elderly relatives, consider adopting an elderly citizen at your local retirement home to visit once or twice a week, play board games or crafts with, and just...listen.
